to the Denton Texas Branch of the American Association of University Women!
The mission of the AAUW is to promote
"equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal
change". The organization achieves this mission through community
outreach and political advocacy both locally and nationally. Some
examples include:

Legal Advocacy Fund - provides funding for women pursuing sexual discrimination cases |
|
|
Educational Foundation - provides funding for women attending graduate programs |
|
|
Research - focuses on issues of gender equity in education |
|
|
Advocacy Web Site- provides easy access to issues important to women and the means to express opinions to lawmakers |
|
|
Community Outreach - encourages members to participate in programs to enhance women's opportunities and presence in higher education |
The Denton Branch participates in the mission
by:

|
Providing scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students attending Denton universities (Texas Woman's University and University of North Texas) and; |
|
|
Co-sponsoring with the Lewisville Branch the Expanding Your Horizons conference (EYH) on careers in math and science for middle school girls. |
The meetings
include dinner and a lecture for $17. Reservations are required to attend
the meetings and can be made by emailing aauwdenton@gmail.com
or by contacting Anita Hawley at 940-387-8620 by the Saturday prior to the
Wednesday meeting.
When

Monthly meetings are held at 6 pm on the first Wednesday from September to December and February to May. |
|
|
Members and guests may enter as early as 5:45 pm. Dinner is served about 6:15 pm. |
Where
|
|
The meetings are held at Fremaux's Metropolitan Cafe, 932 W University Drive, which is located in the same shopping center as Krogers, near the Movie Tavern. |
